Solo Burlesque Series -- Session 1 -- Act Foundations

Be the star of your life! Step into the ShowGirl Temple to be nourished through the creation of a Solo Burlesque act and perform before a loving audience!

In ShowGirl Temple we dance in worship of our sexiness. We break free of shame and step into the most glittering manifestations, shining our light for all, but most importantly for ourselves. ShowGirl Temple is Body Positive and welcomes performers of varied skill levels. This series is open to all gender identities.

Through this 6-week course you will learn the foundation of creating a solo act and be guided to bring a fabulous presentation to the Burlesque stage at the ShowGirl Temple Spring Showcase April 13 at Funhouse Lounge, Portland.

High Priestess of Tease and International Burlesque Performer Eva D’Luscious will cover act development, including storytelling through dance, principals of musicality, choreography and stage presence, how to break down music and her 3Ps of Striptease. RiRi SynCyr, Co-Producer Oregon Burlesque Festival and Development Director of BurlyCon, will lead a Costuming Session on bra and panty construction and principals of Costuming. Vanity Thorn, Producer of Vanity’s Vaudeville Vixens and PinUp Model, will provide instruction in Posing, Stage Hair and MakeUp.

The full series also includes:
- A Group Session for Act Workshopping and Professionalism in Burlesque
- 1 hour of rehearsal time in the ShowGirl Temple (for use during the Series)
- A 1 hour Private Act Workshopping Session with Eva D’Luscious (during the Series)
- Mini Photoshoot with Pixie’s PinUps, directed by Vanity Thorn. Participants will receive 3 finished digital images ready for promoting themselves.
- Professional stage photos and act video from the ShowGirl Temple Showcase
- Celebration Brunch and Video Viewing following the Showcase, date TBD

Series Participants who attend all classes and fully prepare their acts will perform in the ShowGirl Temple Spring Showcase, Saturday, April 13.

ShowGirl Temple students may apply for remaining spaces in the Spring Showcase, and will be required to join the Group Workshop & Feedback Session.

About Your Instructors:

Eva D'Luscious is a Portland-based MC, burlesque performer, producer and instructor known for putting her students at ease and instigating a love of all things sparkly. A self-avowed dance, holistic living and fitness nerd on a mission to unite and uplift through joyful movement, she has supported many people in revealing their sparkly selves and welcomes beginners and experienced dancers to her classes. Eva has performed Burlesque for 8 years, taught Burlesque classes for 5 and is a lifelong dancer.

Known as the Mayor of Chubbytown, Portland-based performer RiRi SynCyr has been shaking her glittering gams across the U.S. since 2003. This plus sized Puerto Rican cutie learned her love of performing from her parents. Her Papi was a salsa musician, and her mother is a professional classical bassoonist. RiRi was taught to sew by her mother and grandmother at a young age and has been hand crafting her own costumes and clothing for most of her life. She’s learned some great tricks along the way on how to make beautiful things fit a fuller body. Subsequently, she is known for her colorful costumes, character, creativity, and musicality. Founder of the original BurlesqueFests.Com spreadsheet, she’s performed in countless festivals and shows from coast to coast. RiRi has studied under some of the biggest names and legends in burlesque, and her passion for continuing education extends to her role as Director of Development for BurlyCon. In 2019 RiRi is overjoyed to take on the role of co-producer for the Oregon Burlesque Festival, as well as for the inaugural Big Fat Burlesque Festival.

Vanity Thorn is an award winning model and burlesque performer. She combines an innate love of history with her work in the beauty industry to author interesting and relevant panels for conventions across the country. Past classes and lectures have included: A History of Cosmetics in the Western World, Finishing Touches; Historical Makeup from the Georgian to Edwardian eras, and From 2D to 3D; How to Master Cosplay Makeup. Vanity Thorn knows the ins-and-outs of professional photography from all angles— makeup artist, creative director, and model. Her passion for fashion can be witnessed in her dazzling stage ensembles and when she is not delighting audiences she is making the cosplay circuit rounds. Whether producing, primping, or performing Vanity Thorn brings a level of dedication to everything she undertakes.

Not your mama's glamour shots! Pixie's PinUps is an Albany based photographer who believes in making her clients feel beautiful and confident. Her specialty is the whole package including hair, makeup & all the wardrobe options a girl could dream of. Her 20 years behind the lens and love for making clients feel beautiful show in every shot. She has always loved Burlesque and is excited to learn more and be more involved.
